You will find the bed-and-breakfast hotel Hunebed nestled in the peaceful countryside of the Dutch province of Drenthe. Drenthe is quite different from what the visitor to the Netherlands is accustomed to. Instead of colourful tulip fields and the hectic activity of cheese markets in bustling towns, you will find woodlands and moors filled with heather. Instad of highways and beaches crowded with noisy holidaymakers, you will find megalithic dolmens (Dutch = Hunebed, hence the name of the hotel) and peaceful quiet. It is said that there are more bicycle paths than roads in the province.

The village of Wezup lies in the midst of dreamy moors and meadows 7 kms from Emmen and 17 kms from the German border. Our thatched Saxon country house stands on one of the most attractive country lanes in Drenthe, surrounded by thatched farmhouses and a stand of tall graceful trees. We can offer you the choice of four attractively appointed and spacious guest rooms, a comfortable breakfast room cum lounge, ample parking, a quiet common surrounded by ancient oaks, a large garden set aside exclusively for our guests, and a newly-created nature pond. The house was still in use as a farmhouse until 1993, when it was completely renovated in traditional style using authentic local materials. Recently we converted the rear part of the house into a guest wing with four spacious en suite guest rooms. A substantial farmhouse breakfast of fresh regional products is served in our rustic breakfast room, which serves in the evening as a lounge. Its rustic farmhouse stove is the focal point for relaxed quiet conversation or a round of cards or a game of chess or checkers. You can also choose a book to read from our large selection of books and magazines. When the weather is warm, you can sit in the garden and browse, and enjoy the view across the meadow.
